Overview
Between January 2024 and April 2025, I competed in three high-performance computing competitions, working with a variety of supercomputers and cloud infrastructure.
Winter Classic Student Cluster Competition (2024)
- 4th Place: Benchmarked and optimized HPL performance on HPE Cray EX supercomputers.
- AWS + NAS parallel benchmarks
- 1st Place: Training and improving inference accuracy of a machine learning model on Oak Ridge National lab’s Frontier
- 1st Place: Built a full HPC environment with Conda, Spack, and AWS EC2 to run cryo-EM software RELION — winning 1st place for cost-optimized cloud deployment.
SC24 Student Cluster Competition (2024)
Built and operated a multi-GPU cluster as part of a team. Key focus areas:
- Benchmarking the cluster with MLPerf
- Completing a reproducibility challenge by reproducing results from a research paper
- Using torchvision (PyTorch) to detect cats in images
Winter Classic Student Cluster Competition (2025)
- Benchmarked and optimized HPL on HPE Cray EX.
- Ran quantum algorithms on IQM Quantum Computers and Oak Ridge National Lab’s Frontier Supercomputer, studying fundamentals of quantum computing.
